Guided mountain biking in the heart of the New Forest

Come and explore the New Forest by bike as part of a small group or one-to-one, guided by fully qualified Mountain Bike Leader, Steve Edmed. This is an enjoyable and friendly way to experience some of the quietest and most scenic spots in the New Forest National Park – from open heaths to ancient woodland. In planning our tours, we make use of over 100 miles of waymarked off-road cycle routes, as well as green lanes that meander through the forest. We usually start at a forest car park, from where – after bike and helmet preparation (safety checks) – we can set off and complete a circular route. In addition to being qualified and accredited through British Cycling, Steve is fully insured and certified as an outdoor first aider with DBS check. At present, he is also the only cycle leader approved by Forestry England. If you’re visiting the area and don’t have your kit with you, we can organise bike and helmet hire for you. We look forward to riding with you!

1-2 Hours Circular Ride (15km)

This ride takes in the Rhinefield Ornamental Drive where you’ll see a giant pair of redwoods, planted in the 1850s, which are the tallest trees in the New Forest. We will be also ride by Rhinefield House Hotel, a site where there has been a settlement since the time of William the Conqueror.

2-3 Hours Circular Ride (20km)

The ride takes in the Reptile Centre, Portuguese Fireplace and picturesque Burley. At the Reptile Centre, frogs and snakes are kept in small enclosures – on a warm sunny day, we might see adders basking in the sun. The Portuguese Fireplace is what remains of a hutted camp used by a Portuguese army unit that aided the local labour force in producing timber during the First World War. Burley is a small village with shops and pubs, so a perfect stop for a pint or ice cream.

Full day Circular Ride (50km)

A full day’s ride offers plenty of options. We can arrange a stop half way round for a bite to eat at a pub or tea room, or we can take food with us and lunch in the heart of the forest. Travelling on a disused railway track, we can stop off for refreshments at The Old Station Tea Rooms. We can include a visit to the Reptile Centre, where forest rangers are free to take questions on the local wildlife in the summer. We also ride through charming villages such as Burley and Brockenhurst or the hamlet of Linwood with its two pubs, The Red Shoot and High Corner Inn. There is also the option to go off-piste to the village of Minstead, where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is buried in the churchyard.
